Why I Follow the Rainbow! You Can Too. : )

Hi everyone, and WELCOME to the Follow the Rainbow Blog Hop! I'm Tara Lain, i write the Beautiful Boys of Romance, and i'm honored to be a participant in this inaugural event from Rainbow Book Reviews, an important new addition to our fast-growing genre community.

First, the GOODIES! This Hop has a ton of great prizes for our friends and readers. You can win Gift Cards and Books and all kinds of cool stuff from Rainbow Book Reviews, a bunch of great LGBT book publishers, and, of course, our brilliant LGBT authors. Don't miss a one! Here is where you can find all of the great places to go and sites to visit! But don't go yet, because i want to tell you what you can win here on my site:

  • A $10 GC to Amazon
  • A choice of any book from my backlist (check them out here)

And here is how you win it:

  • Leave me a comment with your email DON"T FORGET the EMAIL! (put no if you don't want to be on my mail list)
  • Follow this blog
  • If you want to, Please Like my Facebook Page
  • If you are a Fan, please become my Fan on Goodreads
  • Go to the bottom of the Follow the Rainbow Page and hit Follow!

When i started writing fiction, i didn't know LGBT novels existed, but that changed quickly. I was just plotting out my first novel when i read Jet Mykles' Heaven (forgive me if you've heard this story 12 times!) and i was surprised when it turned out to be MM. But wow, i was hooked in one reading. I had planned to write a story of the love between an older woman scientist and her younger research partner and i quickly added another man to the story. In one stroke of the keyboard i was an LGBTQ writer, and the book was called Genetic Attraction, a menage between a woman and two bisexual men.. My two heroes in that book cried out for me to tell their love story and in another stroke (called The Scientist and the Supermodel) i became a MM writer. And very shortly thereafter, i wrote a little book called Volley Balls and became a gay romance writer.

Why did i do it? Why did i become a writer of LGBTQ romance? At the time, i could only say because i loved it and it felt right. Since then, i've thought more deeply about it. While i never intend for it to be so, all of my books are about authenticity -- living a life that is real and true for each person. Clearly, this is an important theme for me because i keep choosing it. And writing LGBTQ romance gives me the perfect cauldron in which to stir together my elements and come out with the truth. If LBGT people in the world today can find the courage, strength and love to live authentically, i can only be inspired. I think my brain and my heart picked the perfect genre for me to get to be who i am by creating characters who find themselves. It's an honor--and a heck of a lot of fun.

Now click through and move on to the next author, the next story and the next prizes!  : )

  1. I never would have gotten into reading romances if it weren't for m/m...the stories just feel less cliched than a lot of het stuff, and the dynamic feels more interesting. Without a lot of the usual conventions I'd expect in a het story, I become more interested in where the plot ends up and in the characters as people.

  18. I never think about confining my writing by sexuality. The novel I'm shopping now has two male main characters that are in an established relationship. The novel I'm currently finishing up has two heterosexual romances. I've written short stories that have transgender themes, m/m relationships, and m/f relationships. It's just what the story calls for. I'm proud to be an LGBT writer.

Your story of how you started is really close to how I started. I had no idea MM novels even existed but I had two male characters screaming at me to write their story and I soon found myself falling in love with LGBTQ novels!

The hop really works as a way to introduce us to new readers. I looked at the description of Sinders and Ash and I would love to read it. The one with magic also seems like one I'd love. And I'm sure your other books are great too given your award~congrats on that! That must feel really great. I am looking forward to going over your site more thoroughly after the hop. I'm a big fan of this genre and I help beta read for a number of my favs. I always look for new authors to read, and I hope I get a chance to read yours. It's my birthday on Monday, so maybe I'll be lucky!
